The Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties is a 501(c)3 organization which receives funding from area businesses and individuals. Additional funding sources include: Virginia Commission for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, City of Galax, Grayson County, Carroll County, and Town of Hillsville.
MISSION STATEMENT: The members and board of The Arts Council believe that art is important to the life of a community and nourishes human development. Its purpose is threefold: to promote communication, cooperation, and support of the arts in the Twin Counties; to serve as a liaison between the arts and businesses, government, and educational institutes; to provide educational services for and about the arts.
The Arts Council carries out this mission through exhibits, workshops, and performances for adults and children, and well as disseminating event information for other local arts organizations, artists, and venues. The Carmichael Scholarship is presented annually to graduating seniors from each of the local high schools who are pursuing further studies in the visual or performing arts. For 2011, a fourth scholarship category has been added for those students outside the public school system.
